Posted from Picasa: Google is brilliant, just brilliant. So they've made the world's best popup ad blocker - and now that they've effectively blocked the most common (and the most hated) form of online advertising, they're selling inline context driven 'sponsored links' now - which are appearing everywhere. They're small and unobtrusive, but the best part about them is the unintentional humor factor that sometimes comes up when you mix the drama of the human struggle with online advertising. Look at the picture, read the story, then check out the ad. Here are some of my favorites: There was nearly no end to this one: Tragic, no? Maybe you should have cleaned out your pool drain! This really was a terrible story, but I just couldn't get over the ad... Break your Ganesh statue? No worries, you can buy a new one online: Traditional sarongs could only have improved this picture. Will my money last a lifetime? Aww, lookit the cute doggie - he's wearing SUNGLASSES. Just like a cute little person. A cute little person you can ZAP with an electric shock if he gets out of line. What more can you ask for in a best friend? Emergency last-minute hurricane shopping? Avoid the rush - shop online! Cheap tickets... Nairobi sounds nice. You just can't buy this kind of publicity: Israeli Army souvenirs - Rock-bottom prices
Posted from Picasa: More vanity plates! I love LA. Thank you Mike and Picasa for freeing all my pictures - and all you poor folks out there have no idea how good things are about to get...
Posted from Picasa: An excellent question: What Would Jesus Drive? Somehow I always figured Jesus was the type to drive a trusty old Honda Civic. Something practical and modest. But no, it turns out that Jesus would drive a Ford Explorer.
Maybe Jesus would want something even more sporty - a VTEC Ford Explorer? Anyway, it turns out that I'm hardly the only one who had this thought. Whenever I'm feeling all clever and cynical, there's always google to come along and bite me in the ass.
Posted from Picasa... I'm taking a figure drawing class at UCLA... and so I've been doing more sketching lately. This is a picture of Amina Lawal, a Nigerian woman who was recently aquitted of charges of adultery (she is pictured below with her daughter Wasila, the living evidence of her crime). Under her village's Islamic custom, adultery carries a penalty of death by stoning. Overall I like the class. The model was good, the teacher is nice enough, and even has a sense of humor - overheard at the first class: "Hmmm, yeah, I'd just erase that..." and... "Well, I'd go ahead and call that done. I mean, you might do something else and wreck it, and then you'd feel awful." He didn't say anything at all to me. I'm not entirely sure how to take that.
